“It ain’t none of your business.”
That particular phrase has been bouncin’ around in my head, lately.
I read articles about banning drag shows, restricting abortion access, and punishing trans folks and my first reaction is to say conservatives need to mind their own business. Get their nose out of what everyone else is doing.
Problem is, they can say the same thing. They believe they’re trying to save eternal lives and we should sit back and let them.
All of which begs the question, where do we draw the lines?
When is it ok to say something ain’t none of our business?
Is it when actions cause someone else harm?
While I believe I am a “someone else” and people not wearing masks causes me harm, they believe a fetus is “someone else”. Liberals and progressives (and I count myself in those groups) can say conservatives and evangelicals are wrong, but….guess what….they say we’re wrong.
While all of us (liberal, conservative, purple mountain goats….whatever) may have a hill we’re willing to die on (and that’s not necessarily a bad thing), we need to realize all of these nationwide questions we’re tackling right now are some doozies.
It’s hard and it’s murky. It’s going to get worse before it gets better.
And as much as I’d like to tell people to keep their noses out of everyone’s business, I can’t.
Things are coming to a head and it seems it’s everyone’s business.
~~ For those who don’t know, I was recently diagnosed with an autoimmune arthritis disorder. While adjusting to the new medication, I took a break from writing. A break which was extended when my laptop went kablooie! I’m back now, and given how this post went, willing to talk about the current political culture. ~~
