Hope
These days, if you’re like me, you need a little something to restore your faith in humanity. Personally, I’m holding on to any little thing that makes me think we’re not all doomed. With this in mind, I’d like to share an observation that never fails to perk me up when I think about it.
Flowers and bushes.
I may not be heading in the direction you’re thinking. I’m not gonna say flowers are a gift from above or anything along those lines.
Instead, I’m going to ask you to do something. The next time you’re out for a drive, particularly in the spring or summer, pay attention to how many houses have at least one flowering bush out front. Or at least one clump of daffodils.
Also, pay attention to the various types of homes where you see these flowers and bushes.
I’ve noticed you can be on some little back country road, driving past the absolute most ramshackle house, and they’ll have some tulips. Or a forsythia bush. Or a dogwood tree. Same goes for the big mansions. (They usually have more than one.)
The same holds true in cities. Notice the flowerpots in windows. And the planter boxes.
For so many of us, it’s important to add a little beauty to the world in whatever way we can. And THAT gives me hope.
