A Bit of An Explanation
You may have noticed I try to avoid political talk in my blog posts. Not ‘cause I have a problem stepping on anyone’s toes. No, I avoid it for different reasons. I’d rather write about things that bring a smile to people’s faces.
That being said, I find it hard not to be grumpy these days. It’s slowly morphing into my default setting. When certain topics are mentioned, I practically froth at the mouth. I can see the words “Oh god, here we go again” over Ron’s poor head like it’s a cartoon though bubble. He has to listen to the brunt of it when I’m reading the news.
To be honest, for a few years, it’s been a constant cycle of “What the… (insert various expletives here)”… WITH. NO. LET. UP.
So, I want to take a few moments to acknowledge that fact.
We are living through a time period that will most DEFINITELY be closely studied by future generations. As someone who loves history and majored in sociology, I recognize the signs. We’re at a turning point. I’m not sure which way we’ll go. Love and light or hate and anger. Which will win out?
(There was gonna be an entire section here on what I find reassuring, but I couldn’t come up with a darn thing, except maybe some nebulous reference to personal connections. And, maybe chocolate?? I find chocolate reassuring. Only in massive quantities. Preferably accompanied by whipped cream and bananas.)
(Ok, as far as the chocolate goes, maybe reassuring is the wrong word. Numbing. Numbing seems a good way to describe the effect of a chocolate coma.)
Annnnnyway.
Yes, there is a global pandemic.
Yes, public health has been politicized.
Yes, violence is escalating.
Yes, democracy is threatened.
Yes. Yes. Yes. The world is frightening right now. I know it. You know it. We all know it.
For now, I choose to do my frothing in private. My blog postings are meant to take your minds off the stressful stuff, even if it is just for a few minutes, which is why I rarely touch on some of the realities of current life.
I am writing about them today only because I wanted you to know I am aware and making a conscious choice to avoid such topics. If I choose to talk about politics at length, I will use a different format.
(In fact, if you know me on Facebook or Twitter, you are most likely sick of my political sharing. In my defense, I do try to throw in the occasional cute animal pic to make up for it! In my head, it goes something like this: political bashing….political bashing….political bashing……awwww cute little wee animal!!…..political bashing…..)
There will be none of that here. In this space, we will talk about the love and light. (I will honestly try not to break that rule immediately.)
I will end on this note…..
If given the opportunity, always choose kindness.
(Don’t ask me what to do if not given the opportunity, ‘cause my mom reads this blog and my response would include some naughty words. And I just said that whole love and light thing and promised to behave.)
(SEE! I can do it!)
