Memory Lane
Time to walk down memory lane.
The other day, I started thinking back to about 18 years ago, when my kids were little. I am 100% certain I am looking back through rose-colored glasses, but I do miss some of those days. At that time, our household wasn’t always a happy one, but there were a few good days and I miss them.
As I was reminiscing, I was pondering what would have been an ideal day back then.
It would be a crisp Saturday in late autumn. After a lazy breakfast, we’d head to the movies for a few hours, and munch on popcorn. We would follow that with a trip to the mall (it was next door to the theater.) We’d wander around, maybe buy yummy cookies stuffed to bursting with frosting. Later, we’d head home and the little ones could camp out in the living room, playing Guitar Hero and making a blanket fort. I’d let them spend the night in their makeshift tent and wake up the next morning to see them asleep in a heap of pillows and blankies.
(They always reminded me of a pile of puppies.)
I really really miss those days.
The reason I’m so nostalgic for that time in our lives is because they were still “in the nest”. Now, the nearest one lives three hours away. And, two of them live across the country. Passing someone a cookie isn’t so easy when you’re in Virginia and they are in Oregon.
So…..
Here’s a suggestion for all of the mamas and papas of wee little ones. Learn to recognize those perfect golden moments when they happen. Once your teeny ones are all grown up, those memories will be your best treasures.
